What to Bring to Your First Kitesurfing Lesson: Full Checklist
Short answer: very little — the technical gear (kite, board, harness, wetsuit, radio helmet) is included in the lesson. Your personal checklist: swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, water and a snack. That's everything essential.
The full checklist
Essential
- Swimsuit — worn under the wetsuit
- Towel and a dry change of clothes for after
- Water-resistant sunscreen — sun reflection off the lagoon burns twice as hard; apply it 30 minutes before the lesson
- Water — between the concentration and the physical effort, you dehydrate without noticing
Highly recommended
- A snack for after (or during a break) — post-kite hunger is legendary
- Cap and sunglasses for the time spent on land (briefing, kite setup)
- Sandals/flip-flops to move comfortably along the shore
Optional
- Thin water shoes if you have sensitive feet (the lagoon bottom is gentle, but for extra comfort)
- Camera or phone — if you're coming with a companion, the lagoon makes for spectacular shots from the shore
- Moisturizer for afterward: sun, salt and wind dry out your skin
What you do NOT need to bring
No technical gear at all: no wetsuit of your own (we provide one in your size), no helmet, no harness, and of course no kite or board. You don't need previous experience or to "be in shape" either — just know how to swim and have the will to try.
An instructor's tip
Sleep well the night before and arrive without rushing. The first lesson is mentally intense (a lot of new information) — arriving rested and with time to spare makes a real difference in how much you get out of those 3 hours.
