Portugal’s Silver Coast — the stretch between Lisbon and Nazaré — is one of Europe’s best-kept secrets for a kitesurfing holiday. A Sample 5-Day Itinerary
Day 1 — Arrive & Explore: Fly into Lisbon, pick up a rental car, drive 1 hour to Foz do Arelho. Settle into accommodation, walk the lagoon shoreline, dinner at a local fish restaurant.
Day 2–3 — Kitesurf Lessons: Morning sessions at Óbidos Lagoon (2–3 hours per day). Afternoons free to visit the medieval town of Óbidos, explore the Bom Sucesso cliffs, or simply relax on the beach.
Day 4 — Surf or Sightseeing: Head to Baleal or Peniche for a surf lesson. Or drive 30 minutes to Nazaré to watch the famous big-wave spot from the fort. Mountain biking trails run along the cliffs above the lagoon.
Day 5 — Final Session & Departure: One more kite session in the morning, pack up, drive back to Lisbon for your flight.
Where to Stay
The closest villages to the lagoon are Foz do Arelho and Bom Sucesso. Both have guesthouses, Airbnbs, and small hotels. For more nightlife and restaurants, Baleal (20 min) and Peniche are popular with surf travellers. Caldas da Rainha (10 min inland) has supermarkets and all services.
Budget
Portugal remains one of Europe’s most affordable destinations. Expect to pay €50–100/night for accommodation, €10–15 for a solid restaurant meal, and €135–165 per kite session depending on lesson format. A 5-day kite holiday can realistically cost under €1,500 per person including flights, accommodation, and lessons.
