Is Kitesurfing Equipment Included? What We Are Salty People Provides

Kitesurfing equipment kite harness board helmet radio Obidos Lagoon lesson

Yes — all equipment is included in every lesson with We Are Salty People at Óbidos Lagoon. You do not need to bring any kite gear. Just show up with a swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen.

What’s Included in Every Lesson

Kite: Appropriate size for your weight and the wind conditions of the day. The kite is selected by the instructor to ensure safe, optimal learning.

Control bar and lines: Matched to the kite, with all safety systems checked before every session.

Harness: Waist or seat harness, fitted to your body before entering the water.

Board: A large, beginner-friendly board for your first sessions, progressing to a standard twin-tip as your skills develop.

Helmet with radio: Every student wears a helmet equipped with a radio receiver. This allows the instructor to give real-time feedback and corrections while you’re in the water, even at a distance. This is one of the most important tools for fast progression.

Impact vest: For buoyancy and protection.

Wetsuit: A 3/2 or 4/3 neoprene wetsuit depending on the water temperature and season.

Insurance: Liability insurance covering the lesson.

What You Should Bring

Swimsuit or boardshorts (to wear under the wetsuit), towel, sunscreen (reef-safe preferred), water bottle, and sunglasses for before and after the lesson. If you wear prescription glasses, consider a sport strap.

Can I Bring My Own Gear?

If you already own kite equipment and prefer to use it, discuss this with Federico when booking. For safety and teaching purposes, the instructor may recommend using school equipment during the learning phase — teaching kites are specifically sized and configured for progression.

Equipment Quality

We Are Salty People uses well-maintained, current-model equipment from leading brands. Kites and boards are inspected before every session. Safety systems (quick release, chicken loop, leash) are checked and tested with every student before entering the water.
