Choosing the Right Kitesurf Lesson Format at Óbidos Lagoon

When you’re starting kitesurfing, one of the first decisions you’ll make is: what kind of lesson should I take? Private, semi-private, shared, or as a group? Each option has its own rhythm, price point, and way of learning.

At We Are Salty People, we believe the best school is the one that adapts to you. That’s why we offer a full range of lesson formats — from solo private sessions to group lessons with family or friends — all taught by the same experienced instructor, Federico.

Here’s how to choose the format that fits your goals.

1. Private (1:1:1) – The Premium Route

  • Best for: Solo learners who want maximum focus and fastest progression.

  • How it works: One student, one kite, one instructor. 100% riding time.

  • Why it matters: Every minute is hands-on with immediate feedback.

  • Our difference: You always know who your coach is: Federico, IKO Level 2, with 10+ years of experience and more than 1200 students taught.

2. Shared (1:2:1) – Entry-Level, Shared Progress

  • Best for: Two friends who want to try kitesurfing together at the lowest price.

  • How it works: Two students share one kite, alternating between practice and observation.

  • Why it matters: Affordable introduction, social, and still very effective.

  • Consider: Progression is slower because you’re sharing the kite.

3. Semi-Private (1:2:2) – Two Students, Two Kites

  • Best for: Couples or friends who want fast progression at shared pricing.

  • How it works: Two students, two kites, one coach. You both ride almost continuously.

  • Why it matters: It’s almost like private lessons, but more cost-effective.

  • Our difference: We’re the only school at Óbidos Lagoon that makes this option available as a standard offer.

4. Group of 3 or 4 (1:3:2 / 1:4:2) – Learn as a Team

  • Best for: Families or friend groups who don’t want to be split apart.

  • How it works: Three or four students, two kites, one instructor. Everyone stays in the same group, learning together.

  • Why it matters: Unique to our school — most places divide groups. With us, you share the whole experience, keep costs lower, and learn side by side.

Why Having One Consistent Instructor Matters

At most schools, you don’t know who your instructor will be. At We Are Salty People, you do.

All lessons — private, semi-private, or group — are taught by Federico, an IKO Level 2 coach with over a decade of experience. That means:

  • No surprises or rotating staff.

  • A consistent progression plan.

  • Trusted, personalized coaching from your first kite launch to your first rides.

Which Format Should You Choose?

  • Fastest progression? → Private 1:1:1 or Semi-Private 1:2:2

  • Best value for two people? → Semi-Private 1:2:2 (progress like private, pay less)

  • Learning with family/friends? → Group 3 or 4 (stay together, 2 kites, shared fun)

  • Lowest-cost introduction? → Shared 1:2:1

Final Word

Kitesurfing is personal. Some want the premium focus of private lessons, others want the shared experience of learning as a group. That’s why we designed our formats to fit every style and budget.

Whatever you choose, you’ll always train with the same trusted instructor, using clear ratios that maximize your time on the water.
